Looking to add some 14 inch Apes to my bike. I know I'll need longer cables, my question is where the heck can I get them?

I checked Amazon and the like, and all I find are OEM cables and kits like this: Amazon LInk

I'm hoping thats not the only solution, since its 170 bucks just for cables. But if thats the case, thats the case.

Any suggestions? With these and a rear fender, I'll be done with my tinkering, and can get back to enjoying the ride.

An important note in regard to cables, shorter or longer:

    It's NOT JUST the length.

It's the "sheath-to-cable" ratio that matters the most; how much inner "free" cable is showing past the sheath. If that's not the same (or very close) clutches and throttles won't work right and won't have the adjustment range to compensate.

Be sure, if ordering custom cables, that you specify both inner cable length and sheath length. If the cable vendor doesn't care about these dimensions, it's a good possibility that your new cables won't fit or function correctly.

What about the end weight dimensions? Our local northern tool has 60" cables availble for mini bikes, but the end "dongle" or whatever you call it is at least a quarter inch across, while the XJ's are much less . Do we have a measurement for those, or should I just grab a tape and measure? I don't know if they have a special name or something like that.

    That too.

Mini bike parts=generally not motorcycle-duty. Northern Tool is not a motorcycle store.

Better to contact Motion Pro or another motorcycle-specific vendor. MiniBike parts are like bicycle parts; they're simply not made for the rigors of true "motor vehicle" service.

There are any number of places that do "chopper" cables; some are uber-expensive; but that's because they're just marking up somebody else's work. Some are quite reasonable, comparable with stock OEM cables.

Check with XJ4Ever (PM member chacal.)

This may sound like a dis, but I'm actually curious: why would you put ape hanger on any standard bike, let alone an XJ? IMHO, ape hangers are the stupidest looking things around, and even look worse when not on a fat ass cruiser. Plus they'll throw off the center of gravity on the bike, making it more difficult to control. I'm sure I could get used to the balance, but no way could I get used to looking like THAT? ^_^

I guess people have different sense of style :) Different strokes and all that ... I do agree that ape hangers generally look pretty ridiculous 8O

In my house we refer to them as "armpit dryers." It seems the only logical explanation.
