I dont think I believe the reporter when they said he was doing 70, for 1 if he was on a non-interstate road he was asking for it, 2 just didnt look that fast and he appeared to be hard on the brakes, so at least not 70 a point of impact, or he would have landed in front of the car, not on the hood.

that being said, glad he was wearing gear and glad he walked away.

also didnt look like he was paying attention...

i kinda agree, but it did look as if the car was going to turn right, inwhich case he wouldve needed to pass on the left side, which is more dangerous. but yah if he was paying attention he couldve avoided any mess.

The original vid https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nmIorJDnGMM The rider admits fault, and has decided that motorcycles aren't for him.

Being visible to the rear is one more HUGE reason against using LED replacement bulbs in brake lights and turn signals, and against smoked taillight lenses. A good set of bright, standard, ugly taillights might have gotten the rider's attention sooner. The driver of the Camaro is lucky he wasn't hit by an inattentive grain truck driver.

Great he's going to buy a car next, approaching from the rear coming soon to an intersection near you.

I've seen about a zillion posts about riding gear and the importance of ALWAYS wearing it often over the past few years. I agree wholeheartedly!

But who in their right mind wears most of the correct riding gear and doesn't wear gloves????

When you take a spill, your hands, which you depend on almost more than any other body part daily, are the first things out front as you try to stop yourself while flying through the air. And they are the first things to generally contact the non moving object, mostly the pavement. Rip your palm off your hand and see how that feels!

And gloves will help your grips last longer too by keeping your sweaty palms off of them. Been wearing gloves over 40 years. I left the house once, somehow forgetting my gloves, went about 100 yards, felt so naked that I returned to put them on.

OK, that was my soapbox for now. Glad no one was really injured in that incident.

I also have a Sportster (it's lent out to a missionary currently in the states right now or I would go look at the speedo) but I think that the needle position in the video should indicate about where 70 mph is.

Yeah if you look at the speedo closely in slow motion he had slowed to somewhere in the high 40's at impact. I can say (unfortunately) from experience, at 70 he wouldn't have landed on the car, his bike wouldnt have basically just fell over and stopped, and he damn sure wouldn't have walked away...
