stupid loud, and annoying, ran like crap.

Mind you, it's how I got the bike, not something I did to it, it sounded so bad, and ran worse. Maybe it would run better after being jetted, but it would still sound like hammered poo.

Yes I figured that and I have gone with a 4 into 1 now. I may replace the muffler with a short stainless can but thanks for answering.

which brand did you use? I'm keyed up to order the MAC 4:1 (all black because my bike bears a remarkable resemblance to Johnny Cash)

My bike came the stock exhaust and with the 4 into 1. I can't find any markings on it so I can't help you too much.
I'm going to put one of these on it and see how it sounds although I do like the sound of the header as is. Making the change more for the looks and a rounder tone from the packing rather than the metal baffle in the 4 into 1. at least that's what I am hoping for.

I was running that straight pipe racket until I managed to slam on the 4 into 1 with custom carbon fiber muffler that was on my new gsxr parts bike, WAY BETTER! MORE POWER, all around better running bike. Screwed up the clearance though. Did I not hear about a replacement oil filter that allows for a tighter fit with a 4 to 1?

I pulled the mufflers and run chrome turn downs. Personally I like the sound and the bike runs fine without a rejet.

I think backpressure will be insufficient with no restriction on the exhaust. If you like the look and sound, try adding internal baffles. They run about seven bucks a pop on amazon and would give you the look, sound, and power. IE:
Bikers Chioce Can Opener Exhaust Baffles

When I got my Seca it had a pair of JC Whitney slash-cuts on it. The kind that are "baffled" with steel wool. It was loud, and ran like crap. Wasn't smooth when pulling from idle, difficult to warm up, popping on deceleration. I put a pair of Seca 650 mufflers on (A cool $45 purchase) and those rideability problems went away.

I took my mufflers off a year ago. Its loud but not too loud, i have thought about putting small baffels or lollipop baffels in but never got around to it. It sound pretty sweet IMO

You all must have more tolerant neighbors than I, bikes with no mufflers get angry woman chasing you down the street with brooms, when babies wake up! :)

I ran with the stock collector w/o mufflers for a season before I made my straight pipe set-up. Posted a vid of the bike to show the sound of the set-up. I did no re-jetting and she ran/runs great.
    Vid can be seen here

Strat, the exhaust is just a 1-1/2 to 2" adapter welded to 12" of 2 inch pipe, then clamped to the 4 into 2 stock collector. then I put a 1" "lollipop" baffle in each pipe for back pressure. I've since changed the set-up to 2 2-1 collectors with 1 7/8 straight pipes. Sounds about the same, but looks better as both pipes come back on the right side. Still haven't needed to re-jet and runs like a raped ape.
