Assemble carb question

    In process of assembly process on my carbs. Past threads have talked about lite machine oil on pilot mixure screw because of very fine threads. Started me to thinking (dangerous on my part) about other threaded components where there is brass male threads into female aluminum threads.

    Is it best to have a lite oil on all of these situations or it it better the leave the threads dry?

    A very light smear of anti-sieze compound is good too.

    i always wonder about this too, like why isn't the "choke" plug greased and such, but seems a little anti sieze on the A/F screws, and the screws that hold the rack together is all you need. some grease on the choke bar maybe too, and silcon grease on o rings. i wouldn't put anything on the jets though personally, or anything else if that is what you mean.

    When I do a rack of Carbs I:

    Chuck the Enrichment Activation Rod in a Drill and re-finish it by sanding at high-speed with 400, 800 and 1000.

    I put two layers of Teflon on the Mixture Screws.

    Shine the Enrichment Plungers with Brasso.
    Spray clean with Carb Cleaner.
    Lube with a smear of Synthetic Waterproof Grease.

    Clean the Enrichment Dust Boots in a bath of Carb Cleaner.
    Soak in Armoral.

    Smear the Enrichment Rod with Liquid Silicone.
    Sync the Plunger Forks after precision alignment.
    Lock the Fork Position Screws with Nail Polish.

    After Fine-tuning, ... Plug the Mixture Screw Holes with Brand New #2 Pencil Erasers removed from the Pencils.
    Trim the Plugs ... Flush.
    Lock 'em with Nail Polish or a smear of Bathtub Caulk.

    Well said Co-Matic...there's a lot be said for finishing/polishing components as opposed to just throwing some lubricant at them!

    Thanks for the pre-heads up. I've not yet gotten to Enrichment Activation Rod reassenbly but its right around the corner.

    Another headsup is that rod isn't stainless so if you shine it too much, it'll rust next week.

    Just give the rod a good sanding and WD40 it....or have one made out of stainless steel for about 20 bucks or have it chromed.....
