screwy speedo

    A friend of mine has a 1984 rz350 and his speedo is reading about 25mph faster than it should ie,actual 20mph=45mph reading it is consistant at all speeds.As far as I know the rim and tire are the correct size for the bike so I dont think that gearing is the issue.
    Of coarse this being a rz350 it has been ridden very hard most of its life and it has been crashed as a result but on the other side opposite the speedo so I dont know if that affected it or not.
    Any ideas ?
