The Good News is I made it home Ok

    The bad news is I snapped my clutch cable at just about a third of the way home, fortunately it snapped at a convenient spot to hop on the freeway. My favored way home would have been on the "milk" roads through S.E. Wisconsin, but like I said the cable snapped near the freeway on-ramp...that saved me numerous clutchless downshifts/upshifts.
    Probably not the safest thing to do, but it was either that or leave my bike stranded 75-80 miles from home without the ability to fix it for at least a week...made an executive decisions, get on the highway and cruise for 65 miles and try to coast to/time the few stoplights I'd encounter (2 and I caught both of them).
    Can't say I'd want to do it again, but I learned a couple of valuable lessons...#1 take that preventative maintenance thing seriously...#2-#99 how to plan ahead for possible road hazards and possible exit strategies.

    Get yourself two new cables. Route the second one next to the first, zip-tie the ends into place, lubricate it well, wrap both ends with electrical tape, and you'll have a spare cable ready to go.

    If you break a Knarp off the end of a Cable, ... or have a Cable break on you:

    A nearby Industrial Landscaping Equipment Maintenance Shop, Lawn Mower Repair Shop or even a Bicycle Shop with skilled Maintenance and Repair Techs can fabricate a replacement Cable for you.

    They can replace the Wire and add New Ends.

    You have to bring them the Outer Sheath and Broken Parts.

    The replacement Cable needs to be routed through the Sheath before affixing the Bullets or Knarps onto the Wire Cable.

    The broken cable was obviously not well-cared for.

    I can't see a new Yamaha cable ever breaking if kept properly lubed and maintained; they're quite a "beefy" item.

    Happened to me many years ago on my Triumph 650. The Triumph didn't have quite as tight a gearbox as my Yamaha, but i slam shifted the gears n ran a cpl stop signs :) Made it home in 1 piece. Did I mention this was many years ago(30 or so) :)

    THIS is a really good idea if we're talking about British bikes. Luckily, Yamaha clutch cables are at least 3X beefier.
