Probably haven't been adjusted for quite some time and the springs were stuck in the adjustment seats. Now the trick is to find the "Right" girlfriend.

The real trick is to find one that stays 'right'. Once they know they have you, they tend to gain weight fast and hard, like the Maxim X's acceleration at 7.000 RPM, and they reach the redline just as fast. I'll force her to participate in my grueling work-outs and stay lean and mean :)

I rode the bike today, the difference between second and third position isn't huge but it's enough. I believe I would prefer 1st position even more for myself, but in 1st I wouldn't get away with a passenger, in 2nd I just might.

I have a new girlfriend. She's tiny so 2nd position of the rear springs should do :) Before I take her for a ride, I have one small concern though.

When I use the switch for my indicator lights to make a turn, one of the the sides (I believe right) does not always engage. If it does, it often only works for a second or two. This problem is very recent.

From the moment I bought the bike I noticed all lights blinked really fast. My mechanic thought it to be normal, he said since it's a bike from the USA that must be normal over there. Over here they blink at a slower rate.

But maybe it isn't normal at all and there has been a problem all the time since I bought it ? Either way, what would be the first thing to check ? The relay ? If I remember corectly it's located under the seat, not sure.

This would be the one, right ? It's for sale in my country.

Hmmm I should probably check whether one of the lights (front or rear) is out, too. Hmm I just went and checked, and noticed both sides now have problems, when I engage the switch to either side, either nothing happens or the indicator lights only blink for a second or two then quit. I noticed both front and rear lights on the left side function, and the front right as well, could not check front rear as suddenly both sides quit working all the way, nothing happens when I engage the switch in either direction, no clicking relay sound. Some circuit must have burnt all the way, my guess is the relay but I'm no expert. Thanks !

Or was it the starter relay that's located under the seat ? The signal turn relay might be located elsewhere ? Hopefully it's not too much of a hassle to reach. Either way I'll have to fix the issue, must have indicator lights.

It's located under the fuel tank.

Here's a page showing the part # for the relay and all the models it fits:
    http://www.boats.net/parts/detail/yamah ... 71-00.html

You could probably find a good used one in your area using a basic search for a "Yamaha turn signal relay". Then use the model cross reference to make sure it will work.

Be certain all your bulbs and connections are good because it will cause trouble if they aren't. The relay needs to have the proper resistance in order to flash the bulbs at the correct rate.

Thanks. I just tried again, it worked for two seconds then stopped. Turned the ignition key to off and back to on, worked again for two seconds. Sometimes turning off / on the key helps, but not always. Strange.

Well, removing the fuel tank and gently hitting the flasher relay had an effect.
We cut it open and noticed that one of the two relays in there had heated up pretty badly. Looks like some moisture caused a short circuit at some point.

I am going to buy the complete relay unit that's for sale in my country in used condition but I am also going to try and find the single relay as shown in the pic below in my country, hoping we can repair the flasher unit and have a spare one.
