Last weekend a friend asks me to go trail riding with him. I was looking forward to having a great day, which I was until a got thrown off the bike going down a steep hill. 4x yet it was the third time that I got slammed into a rock- ouch left side of rib cage cracked. two days later still all most in tears every time i lay down or laugh get in my car or use anything on my left side. Wife asks was it worth it- YES always ride with in your limits. Yes I was wearing all my protective gear also hate to imagine what it would of been like with out it.

    Got to be careful man.
Recently I went down on my bike, going fairly slow ie maybe 10km/h

I did a little tumble over the right side of the bars and I thought I pulled my back or something. Went to the the hospital turns out i collapsed my lung slightly.

Lesson I learned is you can't have too much fun, but you also cant be too safe. If something feels wrong that might be because it is. Never hurts to get someone to look at it, even if it turn out to be nothing.

Also had a few rib injuries in the past. I bruised a intercostal muscle between the ribs before; sneezing felt like I was dieing!!!!!

Been down twice. Once was 35mph turn with gravel and target fixation. Stitches on my knee and a bone bruised foot. Second timd was oil spilled infront of an autozone on blacktop at 15mph. Slid on my chest with a leg stuck under the bike. No damage to the bikesecond time just loss of pride. Youre no longer a bad ass when a 70 year old woman is offering to help lift the bike off you...

When I went down, I broke my collarbone, nine ribs and punctured a lung all on the left side. Not my idea of a good time. But I didn't quit riding.

I've been riding MC's (both street and dirt) for the last 30 yrs. I have crashed my dirt bikes dozens of times a..always wearing all the right gear
Three seasons ago I broke my pelvis while riding in the woods. I don't remember anything other than waking up only to black out again. I'm told that this went on for about 3hrs. I do remember waking up at some point in the passengers side of my truck 3miles back in the woods.... blacked out again and woke up in a parking lot of a hospital somewhere about 2 hrs north of where I live. I refused to get out of the truck and told my riding partner to take me to the hospital close to home. I spent a week in there and to this day has been the most painful injury and recovery that I have experienced (including appendectomy and two back surgeries).
Thaw said, as I posted a bit earlier this week I hit and killed a buck on i75 3weeks ago pretty much totaling my ride. I was running between 70-75. This too was relatively painful but not even remotely close to the broken pelvis.
There's no substitute for wearing the right gear. There's also no substitute for having common sense. I believe this was my last season for motorized cycles, either street or dirt, at least until my kids are out of the house (at least 3 more yrs)... this should let me heal completely:)

Ouch, what's everyone crashing for lately? :( I know what it's like to have ribs cracked & you're right it's far from fun, and a broken pelvis must be hideous! Luckily for me (sort of) the worst I've had was a broken tibia & fibula a few years back.
The actual break didn't hurt all that much I could handle that & the bones grinding when they moved me, what really hurt was when they pinned it back together, it felt like they'd been hitting it with hammers (largely because that's how they perform a tibial nail op)... Compared to that my cruciate ligament injury has been a breeze once the swelling went down.

Just because we wear the right gear, sh*t can still happen & the main thing that keeps us out of hospital is having eyes in our asses haha, always seems to be the cars here that get me...
