Well, it seems like with the addition of a turbocharger, hitting a false neutral seems to be more common then not. And when i say false neutral i mean hitting neutral between 2-3, 3-4, or 4-5. Probably moreso 2-3, or 3-4....

The problem is that you dont expect it and when you grab a handful of throttle, your tachometer shows 11-12g, and you can hear valvetrain noise up there at those RPM's. possibly valve float, pistons kissing valves.. im not 100% sure. At least when the bike goes EFI, a rev limiter will be fitted which will at least allow more protection from over-revving...

Anyone know what causes this? Am i not pulling up hard enough on the shifter? Or is something in my transmission wearing out? The riding season here is about to end in another week or 2 so the bike will be going into the shop for a full inspection.

I took a look at some electric air shifters, i wonder if that would help solve the issue.

Anyone have any input on this?

Factory Pro has shift kits (detent arm and shift spring) for a lot of Yamaha models. Not sure if they have one that would cross-reference to your bike?

Go to the online sales category and click on Yamaha:

I would look into making sure the shift spring isn't weak first, before upgrading to an electric shifter because they're very pricey. And would only mask a potential internal trans problem.

Are the RPM's hanging when you close the throttle to shift?? due to boost??
If so, you may have already rounded the "dogs" which engage your gears to the transmission shaft.

Just watched your video - you need to shop around for a TURBO transmission set, as the gears are somehow "harder" than stock gears.
How are you managing with "non-turbo" cams ?? And no knock sensor?

your not going into neutral, your out of one gear but not in the next.
if it goes in the next gear, then pops out, you got problems.
try putting pressure on the shifter before you touch the clutch, you should feel it go in the next gear.
these arn't modern bikes with clicky shifters. think three on the tree, not hurst on the floor

sounds like the trans needs work. sometimes mine will make me miss a 1-2 shift but the last ride out i had it pop out of 2nd into neutral but i like to roll in 2nd with the big bikes and nail the throttle and pull the clutch in for a quick sec and let it out thats when i seen the pop out
