    Hi Guys,

    A quick question:
Did the Yamaha XJ650 Seca have polished edges on the fins on the head? If so did they just do the outer faces of motor (left and right sides), or did they wrap them around and polish the fins to the exhaust ports and inlet ports as well?

    Thanks

    Gauge

No. As TIME said, they "went around the corner." And that was it.

On the head, the sanding went around the corners, but as soon as the corner stopped being round, they stopped. They did not go onto the fins running across the front or rear of the head.

On the cylinders, they stopped at the rear after just "going around the corner" but on the front it looks like they may have gone as far as under the #1 and #4 exhaust pipes; but they didn't go all the way across.

I have an original, unmolested and "un detailed" 650R but it's also had a hard life and 80% of the paint has flaked off the head/cylinders leaving an interesting combination of paint freckles and mottled corrosion. It's relatively easy to tell where they stopped on the head and rear of the jugs, but as far as the front of the cylinders, I just can't be 100% sure.

We need biggs or another original owner to jump in here.

    Thanks bigfitz52,
Once again your input has been valuable.
So they are polished or bare alloy from factory, and the rear carby side of the motor they stop at the end of the corner just as it straighten out.
All i need to work out now, is how far on the front exhaust side.

    Cheers

or you could just do it to how you want it to look. almsot no one will judge you on it, as most people wont know if that is the 'original' design or not. so i would say just got with your gut on how it should look to you.

I agree with SilentRaven, I personally think it looks cleaner if you sand all the way around on any of the fins you choose to polish even to where it is about to meet up to the exhaust port.
