Had the safe of my life yesterday, had to choose while going up my driveway, which is about 200 yards long, between hitting my dog who ran out in front of me or to try and cut across some wet leaves. Deciding to take my chances with the leaves I lost the back end of the bike and went down at about 30mph. Thanks to my gear I only suffered a few small scratches and a sore back. The seca on the other hand suffered a torn up case guard, turn signals and headlight bucket ...

Yikes, three wrecks in one day!

Ha, just kidding. Good to hear you weren't injured seriously. And glad you don't have to explain to anyone why the dog is hurt, or worse. Luckily, the parts can be replaced easy enough.

Guys who say they have never been down, ... rarely complete the sentence.

"Since I started riding; I've never been down ... YET!"

Have to say that I hope it never happens again. Wasn't a comfortable feeling feeling that back tire slide out.

Sorry you wiped out. I've had the rear end come out a couple times on gravel and it's scary.

Sorry to hear your bad luck, at least there's no major damage to the bike, dog or you though that's one good thing. It can be scary having the bike slide, or can be fun if you get used to it... If you regularly ride in bad road conditions like here in the UK (specially autumn with all the leaves, as you mentioned) it can be worth practicing and getting used to the sensation of sliding the front & back of the bike as it can make the difference between saving it or dumping it if the worst should happen on the road. You don't have to get up the skill level of a speedway rider or anything but simply being used to how it feels can stop you panic-braking or bailing if it does happen at speed...

go to the thrift store and get a 33 1/3 vinyl album, throw it out on the street, ride over it while applying the back brake kind of hard.
if you hit it right, it's like oiled ice

That sucks. How was your hands feeling? I think that the thing that can make all the difference in a little spill, are the gloves. if you hvae decent enough gloves you won't end up with cuts all over. I know i had armored gloves that really saved my hands when I went down my first time ( 20mph tip over ).

This is the season for sneaky wet leave traps too.. Be safe everyone

Ive saved myself 3 times on the street by knowing how to control a rear tire slip.
I dirtbike on a very regular basis and muddy conditions are my favorite
Sliding that rear tire out around a turn at 40MPH, throwing the bike over, and whipping it back upright while shifting is such an awesome feeling
Do it a few times and become well practiced, and you'll never be scared of that tire coming out again. You'll be able to control it.
Glad you're alright. Happy the bike didnt suffer much

You wouldn't have hit the dog. The dog knew that, you didn't.

And Chris is right about dirt bike experience; I haven't ridden dirt in over 40 years but once you get the feel of a loose wheel (at either end) it's much easier to deal with when it happens with a street bike. Kicking the rear end loose or a momentary loss of front end traction due to pavement conditions (or outbraking myself) are simply taken in stride and compensated for without even thinking about it. (You think about it afterward, "man, I was really outta shape back there...")

    X2 at natural instinct,

I just mounted up a brand spankin' new rear tire before heading out on my latest road trip.

Being the last thing i had to do before leaving town (had to wait for UPS to deliver the tire that should have been in the day before), I pulled out of the shop parking lot probably just a tad too excited.

Had just put in fresh oil and adj the valves the night before, bike was running like a top, and just begged to have some fun...

Pulled out of the driveway, cracked the throttle a bit, and instantly went sideways - laid down a nice fresh black trail but kept the bike upright, corrected myself, and down the road i went - all while luckily being out of sight of my boss haha .

gotta remember how slick new tires can be, im just glad i didn't lay the bike down especially right before my trip!!
