I bought an XJ700 last week and would like to put it up on the centerstand to change the tires and oil. 25 years ago when I had a Honda CB175 I would just push the centerstand down with my left foot while sitting on the bike and give a good yank on the handle bars. That was a definite no-go with this bike.

Anyone have any tricks or tips for getting an XJ700 up on the centerstand?

    Thanks.

    Welcome to XJBikes.com, Rasputin!

We recently had extended postings just for this subject. Please see this thread:
    http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=3540/

Within the forums there is a search feature that works fairly well. Again, welcome.

Thanks WeAreZilla. I have found all kinds of great info here via search, don't know why I didn't search for this. Guess I figured I was the only noob who can't manage this one. :)

Don't feel bad Rasputin!! I have the same bike and I have the same problem!! I'm not necessarily Hercules but I'm not the 98 lb weakling (6'4"/220) and when I try to put mine up it takes me a god two or three tries!!

The centerstand on the 700's sems to a little dificult to use. I had a 83xj750 as well and it was easy to put on the centerstand compared to the 700, Biggest difference I see is you need to pull back on the handlebars and push down on the stand at the same time to make it easier. Be sure to hang on to the sissy bar as well. Heavy little bike!

Piece of cake once you get the hang of it, getting the hang of it is the hard part. First time I tried it I had to get a neighbour in to help, felt a right prune.

Once I read the thread that WeAreZilla linked to I was able to get it on the centerstand without much trouble. You wouldn't think that pressing down on the stand with your foot would do much but, with a tug on the handlebars, it really does almost make the bike jump right up there. :D

After work yesterday I tried this on my 550, and hooooooly crap! It's so easy! Way easier than the Rasputin 'bounce bounce heave!' method I used to use! My buddy has a '77 CB750k, and I keep my bike in his garage so we tried it on his--no go! That thing is heavy, low, awkward, and LONG.

Neither one of us are big guys (both about 6'2", ~155lb), but the only way either one of us can get that big Honda on the center stand is by lifting with both hands on the rear grab bar and pushing on the center stand with the left foot.
