The cheapest and best option is to get an oil cooler and adapter plate and adapter bolt from an XS1100.
The adapter plate is sandwiched between the lower crankcase and the oil filter housing and has the holes already to take the oil cooler hoses.
You will need the bolt to hold it in place as the original filter bolt won't be long enough on it's own.
There are aftermarket kits such as Lockhart, i've got one on one of mine, but are a bit more expensive unless you can find a secondhand one.
You will need to rig up somewhere for the cooler to bolt to the frame downtubes because the XJ1100 never came with it as standard unlike the European XS1100's.
I can't post up a picture at the moment as i've deleted my photobucket account.
Also i should mention that you might need to get a different exhaust downpipe/header set-up, as the extra adapter plate can cause the pipes to foul up on the filter housing.
Do a bit of research and add about an inch and a half to 2 inches onto the filter housing to get an idea.

Here're a couple of pics of a typical XJ-series oil cooler adapter flange:

The "motor" side (note the same o-ring as the filter housing)

The "front" side (where the standard oil filter housing will mount)

The "key" to the whole thing is the adapter bolt; it screws into the motor but is also internally threaded so the filter bolt can screw into it.
