    Hi,
Have been around for a while, but don't do much postings.

I am in the process (Rather slow) of restoring a 1981 and 82 SecaRJ. In AUS, I am l led to believe that they follow the European model.

On both 1981 models, both engines are completely silver. On the 82 model, it appears that the engine is part silver and part black. The jugs are black along with the side casing covers. yet another 82 engine that I secured as a spare is completely black.

can anyone advise as to what the actual color scheme was for the 82....ie completely silver, completely black or a mixture of both.

I am trying to restore back to original in as best as I can.

    many thanks

Your answer will depend on whether you're restoring to Euro/World, Canadian or USA-Market specs.

this is taken directly from Chacal's catalog although it is for North American spec bikes so not sure if it will help.

    What Color Is My Engine?:

Over the years, the graffiti artists have attacked original bikes with a whole palette of various re-color projects, and sometimes it's hard to tell the players without a scorecard.........

Here is how the various XJ-series engines were originally finished. This information is for the North American models; Euro and Oceania models may have been supplied with other variations.
