Hey does anyone know how much brushes are for a alternator on a xj550? My parts guy says that he can only get them from Yamaha and there just about $30 a piece!....For brushes....Little carbon thingys...

I had a Toyota Tercel one time and the blower fan went on it. It was the brushes. Both the dealer and the wrecker wanted an arm and a leg so I ended up buying some brush stock from my local automotive parts store, cut it to size, and used that. I needed a spring from a pen, but the thing worked, and it cost me about $2, not including the pen

But apparently different applications require different grades of carbon. As I'm still waiting for my xj cd, I don't know anything about the alternator.

Does anyone have some advice for me? Where to get brushes, what kind of carbon...

    Thanks,

Thanks RcPriest. That's a little more reasonable.
