I recently experienced a catastrophic failure in the starting system on my bike which not only destroyed all of the components attached but also cracked the case. As a result I will be parting out the bike, all parts are factory except for the carbs, and some come with new parts.

-Fuel tank comes with a new valve
-Carburetors come with a basic rebuild kit and the main jets are #125 not the factory #120
-Also have set of tires that have never been mounted, not sure on the DOT date
-Complete engine gasket kit still wrapped in plastic

For obvious reasons I'm not going to list all parts or prices. If there is something specific you are needing you can comment or message me an offer, all prices can be negotiated. Pictures and any information available upon request.

It will be helpful if you specify which model/size Maxim you have.

Doesn't that make you mad that you spent all the money you did to make a nice motorcycle only to have a poorly designed piece of junk ruin your investment? Yamaha needs to go back to making musical instraments and told they're not allowed to make one more motorcycle.

altlandf, that is one of the stupid's things I have ever heard. What are you even doing on this forum? The first Yamaha motorcycle was built in 1954. Yamaha musical instruments first showed up around 1988. They have nothing to do with each other. It is obvious that you know nothing about motorcycles. I know for a fact that my yamaha would out last just about anyother motorcycle out there. Just because you don't know what you are talking about and don't know how to work on them doesn't mean that they are bad designed machines....

Well, actually, Mr. Yamaha was making instruments as far back as 1887, and by 1897 established the busines "Nippon Gakki Ltd". There were different divisions created over the years, and around 1955, the Yamaha Motor Corporation was established and the motorcycle division was split off to be run as a separate entity. They had been building music stuff right along, but in the 60's their Music Foundation was established, and they expanded into Europe.

The Yamaha emblem is interesting........the same emblem is used on the music instruments as well---however there is a slight change difference. If you look at the tuning forks, the music logos have the tuning forks and the stems completely inside the outside ring. Where-as the motor corp logo has the the tips of the fork handles touching into the outside ring.

Also, there is a slight difference with the lettering. The music side of the company has a shorter middle leg on the M than the middle leg of the M on the motor side of the company.

Now, as part of my occupation as a school band director, I am pretty familiar with the music side of the Yamaha company; as well as the motor side of it due to my xj hobby. :)

Regarding the engine at hand................if something jammed up inside and the gears tried to climb each other, yeah, I guess it could happen, but that's a new one to me. Seems more like someone tried to start it with a sledghammer............. and it didn't work.

I'm not sure where some people got their info from, but from my experience in the xj world, the xj engines were some of the most ingeniously designed engines. They were so far ahead of their time, and have proven themselves as an incredibly reliable engine, as long as they are given the care and the service that is prescribed. They can also take a substantial amount of abuse before caving into it, too. As with anything, if it's abused or neglected long enough, it will fail. OCCASIONALLY, there may be a problem one that gets out somehow, but those are few and far between..........................

I thought I posted inquiring about parts and prices...

Condition of the plastic T shaped ignition key cover? Is the rear retainer clip cracked like most used ones on fleabay? If it's flopping around the clip is cracked.

Side triangle shaped covers? Espeically the right one?

Electrical relay or entire wiring harness?

Do you have the standard small hump seat or the large king/queen style hump seat? (Still looking for the larger in good condition).

Always looking for cheap spare parts.

Pics will really help us :)
