Hi guys ,I'm Kev and im pretty new to forums, and this is my first post, so I apologise it this question has been asked before.
    I'm currently deep into a build on a 85 xj700 maxim x,
I was wondering if the starter motors on xj bikes are interchangeable ??
as I'm in the uk a 700 starter is proving hard to find, I can get my hands on a xj 900 starter but I'm worried it won't fit ,
    Many thanks in advance
    Kev

While no help on the starter issue, I do welcome to you the boards.

Hopefully someone will chime in here shortly to answer your query.

The person to ask is XJ4Ever. They will know for sure and may even have one for you. Look at the top right of your screen for more info.

Welcome Kev. Is the build on your 85 xj700 maxim x a standard restoration or is it to be something special? Sorry I can't help with your question but I'm sure someone on here will.

    Hi guys,
thanks for greatly appreciated info on the starter issues I have, and for the welcomes, I'm just gonna get an xj900 motor and see if it fits, I was looking at the starter brush kit -smu9145, but I think the contacts on the armature are shot on mine,
My maxim x is a "special build" I will try and get a few phot's up but I think they may big to big to post, if any one can point me in the right direction with pics ??
    Thanks to all who commented,
    Cheers
    Kev

The easiest way to post photos is to upload them to Photobucket. Then copy the 'direct' link next to the uploaded photo and then paste the link into this dialogue box like this

If you do it this way you are not restricted to photo size and you can post an infinite number without using up your allocation.

Hi Kev, I recently had a starter problem with my Maxim X and I know for a fact that the XJ750 Seca starter is the same, I would go so far as to say all XJ's are the same, starter number 4KO-81800-50 Nippon.
There was one on Fleabay this week but it has now sold only £25.00

    Regards Mike.

Great to hear. And good for future people looking for the same answer.

Thanks for letting us, and the board, know.
