XJ700, valves in spec, stock hitachi carbs. Just cleaned again, although they didn't need it. Figured I would check anyways. Didn't change anything from last year( meaning adjustment screws, I didn't break the carb rack either. I put in new plugs today(good spark from each plug). So I fired the bike up, and only 2 cylinders are firing it looks like.. I didn't even have the mufflers on and 2 of the plugs were black. Black smoke out of the exhaust. But number 2 and 3 cylinders weren't even firing..

    Help?

Number 2 and 3 not firing points to a bad coil.

NUmber 1 and 4 are way too rich, you will habe to clean these fooled plugs before you go any further. I personaly use carb cleaner and a old tooth brush.

Is your air filter obstructed (mice nest, or whaterver)?

Yea, I wire brushed the plugs.

    Filter/airbox has been thoroughly cleaned.

I have blue spark at each coil/spark plug.

You have carb problems. Go ahead and take them out and do a through cleaning and carb sync.

I vote for a re-sync starting on the bench. The fact that you pulled the carbs off warrants it.
Even if you do nothing but pull the rack off and reinstall it, it's enough to muck up the sync you had at the start.

That 2-Hole Plug looks like its not getting ANY Fuel to it.

The others indicate you need to do the Rack.

Since the 2-Hole looks so clean, ... put the Petc0ck on PRIme.
Set the Bike on the Work Stand.
Back-out the Bowl Drain Screw and see it there's any Gas in the Bowl.

    Face it, ...

You have to Pull the Rack and do a Full Monte cleaning.
