I was thinking of relocating the instrument (indicator) panel on my 82 maxim 750, has anyone else done this in anyway? I wanted to go to speedo and tach pods attached to handle bars, and possibly put the instrumnet panel in some kind of casing on the top of tank similar to the newer style cruisers. Not sure how to make a compartment for them however? thinking of using aluminum so it would be easy to make bends, cut out holes for indicator lights and level (warning) indicators, with a foam backing between them and tank. Unsure at this point how I would attach it to tank. would love to see some of your mods on this subject or idea's.

I dropped my gauges and panel down about 3 inches by drilling out the two studs and mounting it under the bracket it was on using nylon spacers with long bolts. I used the same concept with the ignition also dropping it down as well but not as far as i did the gauges. This really works well with my cafe bars and 1/4 fairing

Regulator, I've been playing around with a similar idea in my head ever since I started looking at the 82 maxim 750's. The look of the panel is a little too "Knight Rider" for my taste.

What I'm working on puts the speedo and tach pods on the bars (like you mentioned). Instead of moving the sensor lights onto the tank I'm thinking of putting them in a box designed for a horizontal display, replacing indicators with LEDs and leaving it basically in the same location.

This doesn't remove the box but does streamline it a bit and it'll look cool when it's done...if it works. I'll try and post the sketches I have after the holiday weekend here.

I'm making the box out of scrap from an old computer case and looking at getting these to work as my indicator lights.

Hessenr that sounds like a pretty sweet idea! I took my panel apart to look at it this last week, might be tougher than I thought especially with the center "readouts" oil, stand etc. may have to look at another route, I was thinking of also moving my ignition maybe down in the frame area like some of the newer bikes, but the only place I found that would give good clearance so far is the front of the down tubes above my oil cooler, and not sure I like that position?
