XJ550 1982 Maxim: clutch rebuild

    I am getting to the end of my clutch adjustment cable and thinking that a clutch rebuild is coming my way. Is there a HOW-TO guide available on this forum?

    When is clutch slippage most likely? At low RPM city riding, there is no slippage, but I am noticing slippage upon hard acceleration on the freeway at high RPM. Is high RPM slippage the first sign of a worn out clutch?

    Yeah, slippage is the first sign of a worn out clutch. Thankfully, changing the friction plates and the springs is not a hard endeavor. Just make sure your clutch cable isn't part of the problem.

    THIRTY YEARS is the sign that your clutch needs to be rebuilt.

    It's not a matter of "worn out" it's a matter of "dried out/petrified."

    Don't slip it too much or the rebuild will get more expensive (plain plates.)
