I really doubt it jumped time. Ihave seen guite a few Viragos with broken rocker arms. Seems that they are prone to failure but easily replaced. Remove the valve adjustment covers and have a look.

i did remove them and even ran the engine with it off my didnt see anything wrong just hear a rattling noise that gets bigger as you rev the engine like the one of the cam chains is really loose but you think that would cause it and the loss of power? thank you for your help

Check both of them, the intake valve cover is a pain to get to. It is possble for the cam chain tensioner to loosen up or even break a chain guide. You will have to remove the engine side covers to see them.

Then check your valve clearances and do a compression test. Make sure you don't have a hole in a piston.

!50 is good, I would look into the timing chain guides to see if one has broken. You can do a quick by removing the upper cam chain cover on the head and see if the chain is loose.

Might pull the Left side cover for the noise.
I've seen where the starter had been replaced without taking the side cover off which sometimes leaves the tension clip laying inside the Left cover bouncing around the starter idler, clutch & flywheel gears.

On the XV700 I had, the Ignition module was the problem for loss of power. Had it repaired, no more problem.

With the side covers off you can then check your timing.

I had a 1000 or 1100 with a problem like that. Timing wasn't advancing on one cylinder, so lots of intake noise but no power.

ok Im pretty sure I figured the problem now.. I put the rear cylinder on top dead center pulled the cam chain tensioner and it wouldn't push in like it was jammed and when I tried winding it up it wouldn't do anything and it is jammed and will not push in at all

I'm having the same problem with my 85 xv1000 but I have 90 PSI in the second cylinder 120 PSI in the first cylinder and the timing marks are way off this is my first bike with the v-stroke style engine so it's kind of new to me but to my understanding from what can be seen in the two photos that I uploaded timing marks are way off could this be due to a broken cam chain tensioner or something somebody help
