Tach gear block off plug, just to be clear on how it works..

I feel stupid asking this after successfully rebuilding carbs, but....

How does this thing work exactly?


The retainer fits AROUND it, so it won't do any retaining...

Does the little indentation retain it underneath the valve cover?

Again, dumb question but I'm curious if anyone has the scoop so I don't end up on the side of the road puking oil because I just used superglue.

 

That 'C' clamp holds the end of the cable. The jack plug aint part of it....

 

No, the "C" holds the original tach drive in by virtue of the fact that there are raised areas on the body for it to engage.








Honestly, I can't see how that plug is supposed to be held in by the original retainer unless it's big enough that the retainer just wedges against it.

How does it line up on the bike?

I have a tach, but I switched to electrical because they're serviceable and I was tired of replacing the seals in the tach drive.

Little did I know...

The part just slides in. When I tried it on the bike, it was kinda more of the same. The c-retainer not retaining anything.

I didn't want to have to take the valve cover off until I had to, but that little drilled out recess must have something to do with it.

 

That's what I said, Fitz, I was joking about the jack plug, that's part of his camera or something..

I don't see how that will be held in either, where did you get it?

If it's from chacal ask him how it goes in.

But my guess is that it's not from chacal or he'd already have 6 pages of instruction and explanation in an email from him.
