Hello everyone, I'm putting the head back together on my 82 maxim 650 and Fitz said something about valve spring orientation and that there is a special way to put them in. I do not have a shop manual and I want to get my engine back together like yesterday so that I can get it into my freshly painted frame! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The close wound ends go towards the top. That's for both the inner and outer springs.

I was referring to the direction of the coils. It's shown in the factory book. Chris, PM me with your email address and when I get home I'll send you the page from the book.

You don't really need the whole page; here's the info:

Viewed from above (of course) valve springs: Outer spring coil direction clockwise; inner spring counter-clockwise.

Valve spring free length: Inner spring 35.9mm; outer spring 39.5mm.

I'm very sorry for this piece of rubbish information.

The wider wound coils go towards the top.

Very, very sorry. I hope you've not got too far into your refurb and can go and sort it out.

It's fine, I haven't even gotten to it yet.
