Looking for some assistance Rewiring my horn (sounds pathetic right now...cleaned all connectors..bought new horns..still little more than a buzz).
What I'd like to do is get direct power (from where?) and run it through a relay (what kind and how?).
    Any help will be appreciated.

from where, the spare fuse on the new fuse block you put in. or right to the battery thru a fuse. you want the fuse close to the battery if you go that route.
look at the new horn, it should say how many amps it needs. the fuse should be more than that and your relay should be more than that.
the relay should be a SPST or SPDT and have 30, 85, 86, 87, and maybe 87a
    terminals. wire it like this

The only problem here is that the horns (at least on the 550s and 650s that I have factory diagrams for) seem to be pretty "directly-fed" to begin with. I suspect your bike is similar.

Adding a relay and wiring it closer to the battery is only slapping a band-aid on whatever the true issue is.

How about the horn button contacts/wiring, connections inside the switch pod?

I fused my new horns with a relay when I installed them to an empty bank on my new blade style fusebox.

Thanks to all for the input....Polock that was the exact answer to the question I posed....Fitz, that was the exact answer to the problem I had.
Long story short, and I guess you can't say it enough...there are no short cuts..I bought new horns (probably wasted my money), cleaned all connectors, but failed to clean the horn button...opened it up and looked at it (it looked clean)...but until I actually rubbed the contact points with some 600 grit and sprayed it with contact cleaner my horn just buzzed...now I have a horn again.
    Thanks :D

Unfortunately I didn't spring for the higher end horns....just some parts store specials. Just about as loud as the OE's I suspect...but I'm happy.
    Thanks again for your help
