Well here is the video of my 1982 Seca 550 EBay find.
I always wanted a Seca 550 and bought it in a weak moment sight unseen for $801.

Things I knew were wrong with it were brakes, tires, battery.
I did not know the intake boots were gone! I do have the side covers. I had just put the battery in and was looking for the non existent air filter.
I was amazed it starts without choke if its warm outside and comes right off the choke when its cold. It seems to run good. The PO said "some work" had been done to the jets.

I have since put on new tires, battery, chain, rebuilt the caliper, replaced the front & back brakes (I will be posting some horrific delamination pictures) I am using my MC off another bike until the replacement I ordered comes in. Since the bike ran OK with no air box I threw on a cheap set of pods for now. I will have to take the carbs apart and service them, but it is running well and I want get riding it for now.
I just got my plates from DMV. My oil filter just came today, so I will change to 20W50 MC oil this weekend. The engine does make a little more noise at idle then I am used to with my XJ650. I did read a thread that this may common with 550s. It makes a slight whining noise under hard acceleration any ideas about that?

I still need to do brake hoses when I change the MC and Valve adjustment
The bike was never left for a long time not running as far as I know, but was run with no air filter was not maintained well in the last 4 years that the PO had it. I have not even looked at the plugs or anything else in the engine yet.

I would like to put lower bars and bar end mirrors on it.
What do you think about the color? The paint quality is OK.

The poor thing. It's good that you rescued it BUT:

Quit running that sorry motor. IMMEDIATELY adjust the cam chain; and then check your valve clearances. Goofy exhaust or not, that's not what a healthy 550 sounds like. Not only is it way out of sync, it's not fully running on all 4.

Do you have a manual yet?

Thanks you for your advice Fitz. I need to hear a voice of reason b/c I am to excited about getting her on the street!
This is my first 550 and I don't have a manual for it yet. Which one do you recommend? I do have a spec sheet with valve clearances etc.

I read your step by step posts for timing chain adjustment and valve clearances. Both are excellent.

I will adjust the valves and timing chain and put the correct oil in Hopefully this will quiet it down, get rid of the whining noise I am hearing and I can start to ride it.

The carbs have been messed with to get it to run with no air box and the exhaust. My stock 650s would not even run with out the air box.

The rear brake shoes just crumbled in my hands when I removed them!

    Thanks again!
