What should the engine temp be? Where should I measure it? I have a temp of 300 degrees on the cooling fins on head at idle. Please advise. Thank you.

Be more specific. How long at idle, what part of cooling fins and what do you use to measure it with?

It was idling for about 10-15 min. and the cooling fins right by the valve cover. I used an IR thermometer.

After a 'spirited' ride and idling for a minute or two I get about 320-350f on the side fins near the outside spark plugs, measuring the head near the exhaust can get as high as 500f, and opposite the exhaust is usually around 300.

My temps used to be about 75-100 hotter all around, but I switched to AMSOil synthetic because 400+ is way to hot for conventional oil and it actually brought my temps within a more reasonable range.
