    Hi Folks,

I`m going to the Air pod filters look on my 1992 XJ900, and it`s just for the look, I know I can have issues when it's pouring rain etc, but yeah... so be it.

I`ve got a couple of questions:

1/ What diameter pods do I need ?

2/ I`ll have to change the main jets and pilots., the only thing I`ve found
is a thread with a guy who did this, He changed the following: 120 main jets (102.5 stock), size 42 pilots (size 37.5 stock), raised the needle to the top slot of three

the thing is that the 1983 XJ900 is a 853cc and mine a 891cc, so I suppose those mods won`t be ok for my bike !?

3/ do I have to change something else ? (again, not going for more HP here...)

    Thanks

Get yourself ready for an ongoing test-n-tune with adding pods. It took me almost a year to get mine right. Then I moved to a higher elevation. Still fine tuning the fuel/air jets, needle heights, hole diameters of slider, and spring rates.

Don't destroy your air box !!

You have larger bore carbs than the 853 motor, but the intake side most likely is the same dia.

Do you have the factory exhaust - - and your new jet specs, are they for a header system, or stock??

There's a lengthy POD debate thread here, and one of the conclusions is that you should make a "velocity stack" about 2 inches, and mount the PODS to them.

In my some what limited and frustrating experience with PODs velocity stack, jetting etc, sort of helps but one of the main job of the air box is to keep a contestant air pressure across the intakes, which is important with these types of carbs which rely on vacuum to meter fuel. That's why you will get the motor to run good some of the time even most of the time but not all of the time with PODs. If you really want the POD look and want to spend heaps of time and maybe money getting the bike to run OK go for it, but as someone else said don't toss out your air box You may want to put it back on sometime.

How about you get the bike running correctly in its stock configuration first?

thanks for your input guys, couldn`t find that pod thread, any idea what the tread`s name is ?

I would like to know more about that velocity stack !

well as I said previously, I`m taking the carbs apart for the reason you know, and doing that I`ll have to try that PITA carb sync, so why go stock first since it`s the pod and empty rear frame I`m going for ?

    Why go "stock" first?

Because the bike isn't running properly right now. If you go and make a bunch of mods that also affect how it runs, you won't know if you're fighting with an issue because of the issue alone or because of the mods.

Start from a "known" state and you'll have a much easier time of it. Especially since there is no "hard and fast" set of specs for getting a bike with pods and a modified exhaust to run properly.
