I was on my way to work this morning and a lady turned left in front of me. Smashed the right side of the bike ('82 seca with touring package): crash bar bent to frame, foot pegs bent, right muffler smashed, right side luggage destroyed.

It also hit my right ankle which I broke last summer and had to have surgically repaired with a plate and 8 screws on the fibula and two screws on the tibia. The repair appears to have held. I went to the hospital for xrays and they said everything still looks ok. But I have to follow up with my ortho surgeon in a few days to let him make the final determination.

It sucks when you spend so much time restoring one of these things and it's all ruined in the blink of an eye.

I had a stock seca with no fairing and no luggage. I spent years finding all the components and then fabbing up the bracketry to hang the fairing and the luggage. The brakets are all angle iron (not like to original equipment stamped brackets). The brackets held fine - may have even given me that smidgen of xtra protection that saved my leg (but all glory goes to God).

Oh well, that's my story. Be careful out there.

Dave - thanks! Yes, I will rebuild. I need a right side luggage bag, right side fairing cheek, right side muffler. I may have foot pegs. Would you have any of this stuff?

    Thanks - Joe

Thats sucks, People think they are the only ones on the road. I always tell my son it's not what you do but what everyone else will do, so keep an eye on them.
Remember the bike can be fixed, you maybe not.

Thanks for the kind words guys! Bald Wonder - yeah I'm in LaGrange. The accident happened at the intersection of State Route 301 and Biggs Rd. I was headed north on 301 and the lady turned left (heading south) off of Biggs. She never saw me. It was an older woman and she felt real bad - even started crying at one point.

I was mad and hurting at the same time but I still felt real bad for the woman. I know it was an accident and she sure didn't mean it but it kinda spoils my fun for the summer.

Oh well, like you guys have all said, the bike can be fixed. It's almost 5:00 so I'll sip a nice cold one and start planning the rebuild!

I would get ahold of the perpetrator and shake a few hundred $$$ out of her to fix the bike. "Felt bad" or not she should at least foot the bill for her stupidity.

Glad you're reasonably OK. The bike is expendable; you're not.

Thanks gentlemen! The highway patrol was called and they made a full report. The driver was cited and the Highway patrolman gave me a copy of the accident report with the driver's insurance info. They will definitely foot the bill for the hospital trip. I doubt the insurance company is going to give me much for the bike but I will put up as big a fuss as I can.

The tough part is that it wasn't just a standard Seca - I had reassembled the full touring package. Plus I just found new pipes last summer for it.

Oh well, here we go again. But thanks to everyone for the good wishes.

Sorry to here about the accident. Bikes can be replaced (even if it takes sometime) but people can't be. Hope you heal stronger than ever.

    Take care of yourself

I bought my wreck back from the insurance company for 50 bucks and sold enough parts to "restore" my Seca to good running and decent cosmetic condish. Even if it's a write-off you know how much the parts are alone :)

mwhite - I'll keep that in mind. I just don't want a salvage title for it if I can help it. It probably doesn't matter that much because when I am done with the bike it will be parted out or go to the scrap yard anyhow. But just in case I want to resell it I'd rather not have a salvage title for it.

A salvage title will present a hassle to any future buyers, so that's why I wouldn't go that route..... Unless you KNOW Y you'll NEVER sell the frame.

Sorry to hear about the crash, Micro,
I know you put alot of work into the "Touring Package"

List the parts you need so we all can start looking.
I think I have spare pegs, and other 750RH stuff.
