Newb getting an 81 XJ550 saturday

Hello,
I am getting an 81XJ550 for a daily driver to replace my Stangs as my daily drivers for the 55 mile round trip commute to work.

I will post pics in a day or 2 after I get the bike.

I know this about it so far, I may need some carbs as they are in pieces.

I will do what research I can to find out what I will need for them right after I get the bike here.

Yes, welcome. I've found that I've spent about as much time lately reading this forum as I do working on my bike. If you've got an xj, then you've just found one of the internet's great little treasures.

 

I will tell you all the wonderful truth now.
I bought it from a guy I work with for a whopping $20. I got 2 brand new tires with it still in the wrapping and all it needs is minor stuff. The carbs may not be minor, but I need them too. If any of you have parts for an 81 XJ550H let me know what you have I may need it or just want to replace it due to minor rust or something.

$20?? wow. The carbs will cost you a bit most likely, but still you got a steal as long as the motor itself is in good shape.

How many miles are on it??

 

It has 12,400 miles on it. Has great compression and seems to shift through gears well.
