My front feel light and skittish. I had the forks off and put them back on a long time ago, but not recently. I have replaced the steering bearings, wheel bearings. did the bounce tightening trick that others on this site recommended.

I think I want to drop the tubes down a hair to load the front tire more, but can anyone check quickly on their 750 and give me a measure of what their "normal" is?

Thanks again for all that you do!

First, it should not feel light and skittish. Did you check the head bearing tension since you replaced them? The bearings will bed in and need to be re-adjusted after 100 miles or so. My Seca is rock steady at...umm.....well beyond ticketable speeds.

Second, if you are going to drop the front you will need to plug the holes for the air system, and remove the air inlet castings along with the spring clip that keeps the whole shebang together.

The fork tops are flush with the top clamp if everything is put together correctly.

Thanks for the reply K-Moe. The PO of the forks did block off the air system. He sent the whole works away to Progressive Suspension. I swapped his forks in, and sold my forks to a man in Nova Scotia. Currently I have 3 mm above the top clamp, which sounds more than spec, so perhaps I will play with the steering bearings some more before moving them.

That 3mm may be enough to cause the skittishness you're feeling, but check the head bearings as well.
