Ok, getting ready to put the head back on my 650. Previous mechanic marred up the mating surface removing the original gasket, so I was going to apply some Copper Spray-A-Gasket on the head gasket side facing the head.

Should I do the bottom side too? Or would it make future disassembly nigh impossible?

    thanks!

Did you "do" the valves while it was apart? At least valve stem seals, if nothing else? Are you replacing the cam chain gallery seal?

The copper stuff isn't as pervasively sticky as the actual "High-Tack" you could go ahead and do both sides, LIGHTLY; provided you do everything else right you shouldn't need to pull it apart anytime soon.

Personally, I'd "dust" the bottom side with high-tack and apply the copper to the top side. On the Norton, I've always used high-tack, again lightly, on both sides and it posed no problems tearing it apart, albeit thousands of miles later.

I still owe you some pages from the factory book, but didn't have those scanned and haven't had time yet.

I skipped the valve job until this fall, when I will have more spare time and funds. For right now, if compression is within spec, I'll leave it be.

I'll go with "lightly dusted" on both sides with the spray.. I have a feeling the top side will need it more than bottom, due to some scratches.

I was going over the book, and so far, I don't see anything extraordinary, other than not being 100% sure on the correct torque values. Haynes got that wrong in the past.
