I had both my brake calipers off and when I went to spin the wheel it would stop rotating as soon as my hand left the wheel. Is that normal?

Should the tire just spin freely?

What might cause this since the brake calipers weren't even on the bike!?

    Thanks!

The wheel should spin freely and for quite a while after giving it a good push. You sir, need to replace your wheel bearings.

    Along with everything else!

The shop needs to replace a new tire anyway, maybe I'll just have them looks the bearings right away?

    Thanks!

Just have them do wheel bearings if you haven't before and be happy you did... nothing quite as exciting as a wheel locking up on you

Yea, I think I will. I already have the forks taken apart in my garage. T so sure I'm up for adding bearings to the list too?!

Any idea on the cost for that?

    Thanks!

Pretty cheap...I want to say I paid less $20.
I had Cedar Creek Motorsports in Cedarburg do them when they installed my front tire...they were very reasonable.
    Welcome neighbor.

    Welcome neighbor indeed!!

Yes, that is where I just took the wheel too!

I am also getting a Dunlop 404 installed.

They said, tire, mounting, balancing, and wheel bearing around $150.00.
Did think that was too bad.

I ask about fork seals too, just because... They quoted me $250.00.

    Thanks!

You can do the fork seals yourself. Almost all of the $250 you were quoted to replace the seals is labor cost.
    Which XJ do you have?

    I have the 750.
I have the forks taken apart already.
Getting new springs too. I just hope I don't screw anything up.

It seems all I need are the seals and dust covers. Everything elseems appears in good shape. (I hope).
