I just put drag bars on my bike and had to take them back off because the electrical controls(blinker switch etc) is hitting the tank. Any thoughts on relocating all that stuff or different options?

you could try a set of bar risers or get a different set of bars with just enough rise to clear the tank.

otherwise I could see relocating the choke and starter button, but the engine cutoff needs to stay in that area for safety reasons, and unless you don't want to use your blinkers you'd have to find a way to keep them within thumbs reach.

    Don't turn so much...

Or you can try and find bars with a little rise.

Bar risers might be an option too.

There are some switch options on:http://www.dimecitycycles.com/motorcycle-parts.html

Don't know which XJ you're talking about, but would it be possible to drill and tap the lower triple on the forks and put in a small allen head bolt to restrict how far the forks turn? Won't affect regular riding, but should stop the forks from going to full lock. Just thinking outside the box.
This is on a different bike than yours but may give you a visual of what I'm trying to explain:

From personal experience, not having the starter button where you can hit it with your thumb is downright dangerous. I used to have a Sportster with the start switch down on the side of the bike. a couple stalls pulling out into traffic was enough for me to change it to where it should be. You don't want to take your hands off the bars to start it!

Thanks for the help. I think risers may work. I may just change the bats all together

I have the same issue - I just rolled the bars down as far as they would go and I'm now good on the throttle side but the other cluster still hits... unfortunately it's an XJ650 81 with the choke on the underside of the left controls so that's really what's hitting. If it wasn't for that it would be fine so I'm thinking of going with a pull-up choke and swapping out these controls.

Later on I'm going to drop on some custom switches and drill the bars out so it's all inside. Another alternative is swapping the tank out for something skinnier...

I have to say though that I don't really think it's an issue if you're careful. Your not going to go full lock when just riding unless your doing a U-Turn and even then you shouldn't need to. Only if you're trying to 3-point turn the thing in an alley should it be an issue.
