It appears as though the retaining bolt for my oil filter cap is stuck.

I don't want to snap it off but I've given it some force and it won't budge. The bike is quite warm.

Any help on getting this off would be appreciated.

    Thanks
    Rich./

I found that a 17mm socket fit a lot tighter than the 11/16th.

I sprayed the seal with WD40 and left it for 20 min and then used the 17mm socket and it finally gave. Phew!

Dude. It's a Japanese bike. It's ALL METRIC!

So are most cars since the late '70s, including American cars. In today's world, all those Imperial ("Amurrican") tools are good for is lawn mowers (provided it's a Briggs and not a Kohler or Ryobi.)

Get thee some metric tools lest ye really bugger something up.

Haha - yeah I was kinda joking - I used the wrong socket set first...fortunately one of the things that I did bring with me from UK was a decent metric socket set...

All done - pretty easy - took me about 20 mins actually working on it - unfortunately it actually took about 2hour as I had to feed my two kids in the middle of it. :)

I had the same problem. I ended up destroying mine because the bolt was stuck in the housing. I had to hit it with a hammer and flat screw drive to get it to start spinning. I don't think the previous owner we've changer the oil or he eat over tightened the bolt. I had to replace mine.
