every now and then when i really lean the bike hard and accelerate while leaning so low i get this dance with the rear end and i have to let off then it goes away but its only when i am giving it hard acceleration while leaning that low the maxim x never does that i could be pulling hard at 8-9-10k on the x it handles so well i feel so comfortable so has anyone had this problem with and why does my aircooled bike do this and not the x?

As i understand it there are a few things that could cause that including bad shocks and or shock adjustment, bad wheel bearings, bad pads, bad bearings or adjustment to swing arm, wheel mis-aligned or out of balance, warped wheel, etc. Imo drop the rear wheel and see if there's excessive side to side slop in the swing arm. And make sure the shocks are adjusted equally and properly secured and not whallowing in the bushings. Hope this helps.

Edit: It might be the tire.

I was thinking it is the pads since im using the original rear brake shoes and they are delaminated but when I drop the rear tire I will check for the side to side slop

If your shoes are delaminated why are you still riding it?
    Got a deathwish or something?

The shoes delaminate as in the brake media separates from the metal getting all jammed upxand locking your rear wheel up. Usually happens at the worst possible moment. Change wheel Bearings while you are in there.

Grab your swing arms and try to jiggle them side to side they shouldn't move anywhere but vertically

so I changed the rear brake shoes on both xj700's. the maxim x seemed to have new shoes at some point as they wernt delaminated at all and no writing on them. one pad/shoe was fully delaminated on the air cooled bike and the other one half way on there.

so when my dad rode behind me he noticed when im moving over 30mph my rear tire looks alittle crooked to the right does anyone know what would cause that? i know the bikes been dumped hard by the po since theres a good chunk of the engine cool fins broken off on the right side.

How old is the back tire in question?? Because and older, dried-out tire doesn't stick like a fresh one, and you sound like you are really cornering hard.

The bike's "straightness" can be checked, but you need a really straight piece of metal, like a aluminum channel from a sliding glass door.
Angle iron often has a slight bend.
Set it against the rear tire, carefully measure to the front (like 3/4 inch), switch sides and re-measure. Also get a piece of glass from an 8X10 picture frame and lay it against your chrome fork tubes. It should NOT rock.
