Has anybody tried removing the rubber intake snorkel that feeds air into the air filter box on an xj750? Just curious how it worked out?

Mine came without the snorkel when I bought it. It does serve a purpose. The snorkel helps smooth out the intake and also helps to keep the airbox filled during the pulsing that occurs when the intake valves close. When I aquired a snorkel and put it in there was a noticeable improvement in smoothness and responsiveness while accelerating. Properly engineered airboxes are perhaps the single most important part of ensuring that an engine can produce the power that it was designed to. Leave the snorkel in.

Nice. That's what I figured. CV carbs like even air flow from what I gather, so that makes perfect sense.

If the opening to the airbox (under the seat) has a soft, rubber lip then your snorkel is in place. It protrudes into the air box.

So if I add another snorkel that should be twice as good right? HAHA!

Add three and you can out-drag a late model Civic with a fart can on it (barely).

I should add some rim stripes and go fast stickers too. I wonder how much faster a huge rear wing will make my bike go? I can't stop laughing from the visual I'm getting. :p

I think the Snorkel limits MAF (Mass Air Flow).
    Regulates in a way.

The is a finite amount of air allowed in.

But I have seen both innovated and screwball Airbox jobs.

One kid used a chunk of Drum Corps bugle.
    Removed and screened.
    Removed; Not screened.

There was one that looked like a Fighter Plane strafed it.

All carbs on a multi cylinder 4 stroke engine with a throttle plate per cylinder and no cross over manifolding is harder to tune than otherwise.

The intake valve is only open for 1 of the 4 strokes when the throttle plate is open, and if the air intake has no where else to go, it just reverberates in and out of the that single intake track when it slams into the back of the closed intake valve.

The snorkel and intake box can be thought of as the cross over manifolding.

P.S. The carbs also have to be larger, because each cylinder is getting only the breathing capacity of the single throttle bore, instead of sharing the intake air with the other throttle bores.
