I just picked this XJ 550 Maxim. Lots of useful info from you guys, Thanks. Runs, but needs brakes, lines, tires. I rebuilt the master cylinder. ordered new SS lines and pads, shoes.

    EDIT: Added better pics below

Looks real nice. Good find. It looks like your on the right track as far as maintenance stuff goes. Let me be the first to say this: "check the valve clearance".

Here's an excellent walkthrough. Remember to disconect the battery first.

    Welcome to the forum. :)

Good pictures. Just an FYI, I noticed you have the side stand down while it's on the center stand. Be sure to put the side stand up before you roll it off the center stand. If it lands on you foot :x you'll say some choice things rather loudly.

Thanks Biggs. The PO had the valve shims done a couple years ago and put 100 miles on it since. I will check them since im going to refurbish the valve cover anyways. it only has 15,000miles on it and has been under cover in a climate controlled basement :) im pretty sure every rubber piece needs replaced due to being 32 years old, but i plan on restoring this to showroom new.

I had the side stand down due to cleaning.. its hard to get to the chrome collector with it up.
