I put new wheel bearings in a couple months ago, front and back. I had a new rear tire put on today and the single side bearing came out half way and you can pull it out with your finger, with a good pull. I noticed when I changed the bearings that old bearing did not take much of a hit to get out, on that side. The mechanic said I need to look for a new wheel, the old bearing may have spun and the new bearing is not tight enough.
Is there a fix to this, or do I need to look for a new wheel.

Loctite 609 if the gap is less than 0.12mm

Loctite 660 if the gap is more than 0.12mm, but less than 0.5mm

Any NAPA can order them in if it's not in stock.

Follow the directions, particularly the part dealing with preparation prior to bonding. Both compounds will allow the bearing to be removed for replacement when needed.

Also, find a real mechanic. You were talking to a parts-changer.

I see this kind of thing all the time as a millwright and there is a couple things you can do as long as the bearing is not too sloppy in there.
There is a thing you can buy called bearing retaining compound.
Loctite makes a good one. It's green
Clean the bore where the bearing will be sitting with a good cleaner/de-greaser and also the outer bearing. Apply the compound to the outer bearing and reinsert it. It will harden up real nice and hold the bearing in.
In bad cases I will take my auto punch or a hammer and a punch and dimple the bore in four spots 12, 3, 6, and 9 oclock at the front and back of the bore where the bearing sits before using the retaining compound and then tap the bearing in from the outer race evenly with a bearing insert tool.
Don't slop the retaining compound all over the bearing. Just where you need it.
But always I have to say safety first and if you drive like I do get a wheel when you can.

So driving a Mazda 323 for 32,000 miles with a rear drum that had the bearing bore built up with JB weld was a bad idea?

look at the hole the bearing goes in. if a bearing spun in it you will know it right away. if it looks like a nice smooth machined surface vs a hole made with a cordless drill. get some green loctite
    http://www.mcmaster.com/#loctite-620/=t6lqlx
clean it up good. wipe some of that stuff on there and put it together.
don't get any on the bearing id or the axle.
skip that activator stuff if you can wait 24 hrs for it to set

You guys are the greatest! Thanks! The bearing is not sloppy in there. I believe the loctite will work.
