I've been riding my bike everywhere. Been running great and the other day it just up and died. Now it will only run on choke and only for about 35-45 seconds. It's getting fuel on prime I changed all the fuel filters and lines. Any ideas?

How long ago did you clean the carbs? Possibly the fuel filter failed? That is what happened to me last week.

Or, is the fuel cap not venting? Possibility also.

Do you see fuel flowing even when the bike dies, or does the fuel stop flowing after a bit?

I fully cleaned the carbs through the church back in February. New plugs rebuilt petcock. New fuel filters and fuel line also vacuum line at the same time. I have put close to 2000 miles on it with absolutely no issues until now.

Here's a little more information...... I was riding it backfired a bit I was able to ride it home since then it will only start and idle on choke for about a minute then it dies and it will not rev at all as soon as you touch the throttle it dies. I'm thinking fuel? What do you guys think?

Just a thought. Have you tried to see if it runs with the fuel cap off and the petcock on Prime? I know it sounds odd, but odder things have happened with my bike. Just trying to do the process of elimination.

Anything is appreciated but yes I have tried that seemed to idle a bit longer but still acts the same.

How do your plugs look? Are they wet?

Are all four cylinders firing? Basically, are all four exhaust pipes hot?

Check on everything Buzz asked about. That's the first line of checking.

BTW.....check to see if you're vacuum line has disconnected from either the petcock or the vacuum port.

If that all checks out, you may be looking at a TCI issue.

But first, check all your fuses, check your voltage in case the regulator has gone.

That backfire, though, may indicate that you've swallowed some water. Drain your tank into some clear plastic gallon jugs and let the gas sit for a couple days. If it comes out of the tank clear, you'll probably be ok, but if it comes out 'cloudy", you have a LOT of water mixed in there. Let it sit several days, or a couple weeks for it to re-separate. Decant the clear good gas off the top, and get rid of the rest.

Your backfire may have bounced a float, so you may need to pull the carbs and see if something got in there, and also if something got shifted or loosened.

A few years ago at a carb clinic, we had a bike that would run rough, sputter, backfire, etc..... yet everything kept checking out as we'd test things. Finally, we pulled the rack, opened the bowls.......a main jet was rolling around in the bowl. Put that back in place, and the bike ran like a charm.

Start working your way through methodically, and keep us posted.
