Ok im just tryin to get everything ready for when I do my 750 swap from the old 650. I'm trying to decide if I am going to use a tach or not. I would have to get a electric tach and don't know how things would mount up. I am considering taking the whole assembly off, and just usuing the speed-o. But I wonder if I should keep the oil lever light. Maybe I could just get a l.e.d. and use it as the light. HAs any one done this before.

Nope but the change shouldn't be that hard. Find some gauges you like and mate them in. Just be sure to have the schematics for both your new gauges and your old ones. You should be able to cobble them into place with minimal effort if you pick up some Yamaha gauges. Wiring tends to have lots of similarities throughout the years.

Well I'm in the process of making a custom bracket to fix the speed-o in the middle instead of the side. So I think that will do just fine, I shouldn't need a tach, just play it by ear. Ill put some pics up later on tonight when I'm finished.

Re: Looking to do some guage swapping(done here's some pics)

Ok here is the finished rough draft. Keep in mind I'm going to do a better job later on. I'll have to modify it a little, it's putting pressure on the ignition. But hey I think it looks different.

Looks pretty cool, a little refinement will help but you are in the right place. I've got the gauges off of a 80 XS750. Tach and speedo with indicators. Interested? It looks like it would mount up to existing XJ mount points and they are in very nice shape. I can post picks if interested.

Is the tach mechanical? If so I can't really use it. Sorry, once I saw the pictures I realized it.

Yes it is mechanical. Sorry. Know anyone who might need them? Makes a great Christmas gift for the "hard to find for" gal or fellow.
