sump inspection

    Hi all

    While I have the engine on teh bench is it worth taking the sump off for a clean and inspection ? Gasket is cheap enough...

    It wouldn't hurt. The oil pan is easy enough to remove in-situ once the headers and collector are out of the way. You can inspect the oil pump pickup screen, and replace the o-ring for the oil level sensor while you're at it. Cleaning that sensor woud be smart too, they can get a bit sticky over time and give a false reading.

    LOL - yes this crept into my typing about 2 years ogo and not been able to cure myself- occasionally it can even be 'eth'... !

    I put a few magnets on the metal tray of the sump, and on the steel surfaces of the oil filter just to collect more of the microscopic shards of iron circulating in the oil.
