Would this gauge work good for carb syncing?

Should work better - I'll let you know in a couple of days after I get my carbs back on. I bought 2 liquid-filled combination pressure/vacuum gauges with 2.5" dial from my local Grainger supply house the other day for $18 apiece - no shipping or waiting. Look up Grainger online to find the nearest location to you.

Not a bad choice, they should do nicely. You still may need to create the dampers to get it stable. Another means of damping could be a needle valve from an old fish aquarium set up. The thumb screw would close off the passage with a very fine pitch thread. Should give you plenty of control. The gauges I got from JC Whitney have plastic valves, check out McMaster Carr as well.

get a short length of hose (2 inches) that fits your gauge
roll up a chunk of paper towel and jam it in the hose
use that to connect the gauge, it might take a few tries, thats why the hose is
short, shove it out and try again
2 or 3 tries and you'll have it, thinking 5 to 10 is the range you need

OK, so the liquid-filled gauges flutter like a moth on crack. You'll still need some kind of dampening to get anything like a steady reading.

Wish I had seen this sooner, could've saved you the $.. Liquid filled gauges only damp external vibration/shock movement of the needle, not rapid fluctuations in the vacuum/pressure source. Glycerin is just not viscous enough and the surface area of the needle isn't large enough to create the necessary drag. You will still need a damper, or use a mercury/oil manometer (a 4 column manometer is the best way, because you can see at a glance that the carbs are pulling the same vacuum without having to messs with switches or comparing readings)
