I just bought a new bike and the petcock is broken were you hook the gas line is. the last guy had it jb welded in there. i am gonna go to local motorcycle salvage and check if he has any. I heard if as long as it bolts up to the tank and it would work is that true. the one i have right now if a vacuum operated. could i get one that is gravity with an on and off. i will probably have to get a rebuild kit for one that i would get at the salvage yard. I have a 1985 maxim xj 700. thanks for the help

My son's Radian needed a new petcock. A rebuild kit and an universal "on-off" are about the same price. I got an universal off E-bay. As long as the floats are set properly, you shouldn't have any problems. Still, it's a good idea to shut the petcock off when you're not riding.

I have an extra for 1982 xj750...not sure if it swaps but PM me if you're interested, just want to get rid of it as I use a completely different tank on my bike.
