Never done a wire harness before on an 82 XJ650 need help with the layout of where the wires run to, which way it should be where to be zipped tied etc. I know what they go to just don't want wires all over the place. Any help or photos would be highly appreciated it thank you

when you get something like this, just call it electrically correct.
how far apart is the bike?
can you solder? what do you want to put in/take off?
do you want to use any original wires or start from scratch?

Are you looking to place the factory harness back in its original place? I currently have my 82 650 torn down but the harness is untouched so I wouldn't goof up its placement on the frame etc. If so, I can get some pics for you.

What state are the wires in, are they still banded in the harness or are the like the pic from Polock? Pictures of what you have would be easier to determine. Do you have a repair manual for your bike? I've been told that some manuals have color coded schematics which are easier to follow or you could do as I did and I colored in each wire in my Haynes manual which is all black and white. And welcome to XJ Bikes.

I cant post a photo as soon as I get home from work. The are all banded together still. Just looking to put the harness where it goes not plugging anything in right now. But that is a good idea about coloring all the wires I'm going to use that thanks.

Actually, the 650 wiring harness is very intuitive. Lay it on the batterybox and go under the spine of the tank tunnel. Through the two flexible hooks before the headtube. From that point, you'll find that all the electrical connections are going to be pretty close to where they belong. Yeah, you may have to pull back a couple times, but it's not a difficult one to figure out.

The picture of the spaghetti, is a good example of a lack of intuitive thinking. I've had some bikes come in like that, too, its not that uncommon.

For the 650's, I've just laid the harness right down the length of the bike, the "Y" end of it goes to the front. Get the connector s approximately the right place, the start tucking or re-aligning the harness to go over, under, around, etc... As needed. The connection to the harness are not very long leads in most cases, so that in itself will help guide you. I don't hook anything up until the harness is nestled in nicely and neatly. That way I cad push, pull, and adjust as needed. I put the fuse box in place and then I usually start hooking up the electricals under the spine first. Works easiest for me......

I just noticed that the picture quality took a hit, looked good on the phone. I have a real camera, can get some more later if needed.
