Well, the time has finally come. I upgraded to a xvz after my indiscretion with a 19 year old and his dads truck. I have lots of parts left over that I have no need for anymore. Been a member here for some time and I would like to pay it forward. Easier to list what I do not have anymore.

    Complete rear section
    Frame and triple tree
    Clutch basket
    Tank
    Carbs

Hit me up with what you are looking for and we can make something happen. Get it before E-bay does.

would you happen to have the tank hold down bolt, possibly one rubber turn signal mount and the original yamaha name plate that attaches just under the headlight. I know I can get 4 new turn signals on ebay pretty cheep but I only have one broken standoff. I may also need a solenoid. I have my bike down to the frame at the moment so I may need a few other odds and ends before all is said and done.

I know I have all the tank fittings and bolts. As soon as I find them I will let you know. I do have a short stay and nameplate.

How different is the 700 tank from the 650/750? Not at all would be my guess.

Not without substantial modification. The tunnels are different and the round rubber mounts and hooks are different sizes.

BUT just to verify that, I'll try swapping them around this afternoon and confirm that

Hey thanks! Sorry, relatively new to the XJ scene, but I'm realizing the subtle differences between years/cc sizes are plentiful. :)

No prob at all. The way to learn is to ask, or try to do. I have enough different models here that I am fortunate enough to be able either answer, or do and report :)

I have a 650 and a 750 and, though i haven't tried to swap tanks, they sure do look identical and they are from the same year, which is mostly why i asked.

They are identical underneath. The 81-83 maxim 750 tank is a direct bolt-on upgrade to the 650 maxim. It gives another gal of fuel, a wider look, and a nicer profile line over the top of the tank.. Some 750's have a fuel level sensor in the tank---- just wrap the lead up, tie it, and tuck it out of the way.

Ok, here is the official scoop on the 700/700X tank on a 80-83 650/750 maxim------
The tank itself will physically fit In the space provided. However, the tail of the 700 tank must be flattened out And the rear mount on the 650 frame or 750 frame must be shortened to fit the oval in the 700 tank. The center section of the 700 tank rear rubber bushing must be used, Along with the clamp for the 700 tank.

This only helps secure the rear of the tank.

The 700 tank is shorter than the 650 or 750 tank, So modifications must be made for the front mount.

Here is how someone can do that. Mounts must be made for the smaller bushings of the 700 tank, and extension must be made to reach the bigger bushings for the 650/750 tank at their original places. There is enough room, and enough play, to allow the tank to be angled higher and the extensions would just need to be longer to account for that or it could be kept as low as possible and the extensions made to fit that distance.

Once temporary spacers work then the original larger 650 and 750 bushings could be removed and the extensions could be welded in place.

The extensions will end up only being approximately 3 inches long plus or minus a little bit.

While this modification might look pretty cool, if I remember correctly the 700 tank has a smaller fuel capacity then even the 650 tank does.

Personally, I would not recommend this swap, unless you just want something that looks different.

    Now you know!
