WOW! All these XJs in the St. Louis area! Even 1 in High Ridge. I live in Cedar Hill.

I've been looking for a St. Louis Carb Clinic. Anyone have the knowledge and up for one? I would be willing to host. Not that I have anything special to offer. I live in a subdivision. Don't have a "shop". Don't have the tools yet (I'm looking to buy them). Nor the expertise. But I do have the desire to meet other XJrs as well as get my newly acquired bike in tune. I have the XJCDs. I have a 2 car garage that we can work in. And I have a BBQ grill. What more do we need?

    Anyone interested?

Hi, I live in St.Louis. I would be interested in getting together for a ride and setting up a carb clinic. I have the knowledge and tools but not the space for the clinic.

Let's do it. Carb Clinic at my house. I have a 2 car garage and BBQ. I also have Carbtune and 14 mm Colortune on order. Should be here soon. I have YICS tool on order. Have no idea when that will come. I also plan to order a "box" of shims with my next paycheck. gwh57 has the knowledge and tools. (gwh57 do you have a YICS tool?)

So is the beginning of July a good time? Let's make it happen.

I forgot i even posted this untill i talked to Keith on the mailing list. I think a Mid west carb clinic would be great! And it looks like we would have a place to do it thanks to keith, And gwh57 said he has the tools and knowledge. I will bring some brats. but it would have to be on a sunday for me.

Early July works for me. I can do it either the 1st or the 15th. I have been looking for a reason to put my new throtle cable on.

I can host either day; Sunday July 1st or Sunday July 15th. gwh57 do you have a preference?

Let's see if we can get some of these other guys to join us.

Great! Let's make it July 15th then. ridz contacted me via pm to say that the 15th would be better for him. Plus with just a little more time maybe we can get some of these other guys to join in. I sent everyone on this thread a pm.

Do either of you guys have a YICS tool? I don't. However, I do now have a Carbtune II and a 14 mm Colortune plug. I also have a lawn mower gas tank with a shut-off valve to use as our fuel supply, a couple of box fans for the air cooled bikes, and plenty of wrenches, ratchets, and sockets.

I will also get some burgers and dogs to BBQ. And chips and soda. Feel free to bring a guest and we'll make a day of it. (I also have a pool if it simply gets too hot. :>)

I will pm all of you with my address and a google map link.

Sunday July 15th is less than 2 weeks away. Who's all in? If someone has a YICS tool please bring it. Otherwise we'll have to "improvise".

I'll open the garage at 10 AM. BBQ will be served early afternoon.

    Hi
I just printed the map and I will be there on the 15th. What if it's raining is it still on for that day? I have a YICS tool. Do you have a air compressor or do I need to bring one? We are also going to need spray carb cleaner.

I could be up for that. I'm in KC though so that's a pretty good ride, especially if the bike doesn't run on Sunday Night :(

I just started leaking fuel today out of one of the carbs, probably a stuck float.

What do I need to buy for a rebuild kit?

    Thanks,

    Mikel

    Hi
If I were you I would bring it in a pickup or trailer. You are correct in assuming anything can go wrong and leave you stranded. Another option is drive your car and just bring the carbs. Usually no parts needed when cleaning carbs.

Sunday July 15th is almost here!

We have burgers and brats, chips and dip, soda, and I believe that my wife is making another dish or two (potatoes and beans). The pool will be open just in case it becomes too hot. (Oh yeah, July in St. Louis = too hot.) Hopefully this will encourage a fee more participants. Feel free to bring a guest.

I have a Carbtune II and a 14 mm Colortune plug. We have a YICS tool coming. I have an air compressor, fuel supply, a couple of box fans for the air cooled bikes, 4 or 5 cans of Carb Cleaner, and plenty of wrenches, ratchets, and sockets.

I'll open the garage at 10 AM. BBQ will be served early afternoon.

If it rains, I'll completely leave that up to all that will be traveling. The 2 car garage is obviously covered so we would stay dry in there. But it's not going to rain. :)

Hopefully we'll have a decent turn out. See you all Sunday.

    Hello All,

I'm a newbie here, just bought a 86 XJ700. I wouldn't mind stopping in to say hello and get a few pointers on the bike. I need to see if the dear wife can spare me for a couple of hours. ;)

Come on down Earl, the more the merrier. And you can always bring your wife with you for some free food and a dip in the pool. (Don't know if that will help sway your wife or not but it can't hurt. :))

And here's a re-list of the Google map since the last one didn't take.

First I have to say sorry about the Google driving directions. The Google map was correct but the driving directions were not. So kudos to those that found my place even with the bad driving directions.

Second thanks to gwh57 my bike is running great! gwh57 had us take off our carbs and thoroughly clean them. What a difference!

Overall it was a good day. And we talked about taking a ride along the river road in Grafton, IL in the nearby future. We'll keep you posted about that.

Thanks again for all that came out and especially to gwh57 for guiding us in this endeavor.

Hey everyone, I just got my first motorcycle, an xj650 maxim. I love it but it needs a little work. Too bad I missed the "Carb clinic" last year, but I figured I would try to re-open this thread and see 1) how many people are in the st. louis area 2) is there any chance of having another carb clinic or group ride this summer

Actually, it is time for our 2nd annually St. Louis Carb Clinic. I was thinking maybe one day in May. I'll be glad to host again. Let me know who's interested and what day works best for you (Saturday or Sunday).

    More info to come...

O'Fallon, MO here. 82 750 Seca. Purchased it 6 weeks ago and been working on fixing the myriad of items missing or broken. But it won't be long now. Hopefully I can get it running before you guys set up the next ride or clinic.

I live in Rolla about 2 hours from St. Louis or so. I have an XJ750 Maxim that I resurrected recently. Still runs a tad rough but it's a lot better than it was when I bought it. I'd be happy to ride with someone on the forum sometime in Missouri.

Sorry it took so long to respond. Right now I'm tryign to get the turnsignals to work.. I posted a message asking for help. Either the flashers both work like emergency flashers or they both stay on depending on how I have them wired. The guy I purchsed it from bypassed the main starter button on the main control because of a problem (not sure what). I hope this isn't causeing the problem.

Anyway I hope to strip this bike over the winter and rebuild it. I have an oil leak I'm not sure of where it it coming from (very minor) but I would like to get to resolved. It also needs the clutch rebuilt and some of the wiring. I would alsolike to take it back to the original paint scheme. Not sure I'll get everything done this winter but I'm going to try..

Can anyone recommend a good mechanic in the area. This winter I want to tear down my bike an restore it to orginal. I just found a new oil leak after I plugged one around the tachometer cable. I looks like its a seal around the head. Anyway what I would like to do is remove the engine and have it rebuilt. While that is happening I can tear down the rest of the bike and clean, rewire and paint it. Right now the bike is white, but I would like to take it back to the original red. If anyone can recommend someone please email me a rckclmbrhck @ yahoo.com

    Thanks

    Keith

I'm roughly halfway in between St Louis and Columbia in Montgomery County. Has anyone been to the bike bone yard in Rosebud? I don't need anything at the moment for my 83 Maxim but wouldn't mind picking up spares.
