Where is the best place to buy parts on line, based on value and quality and getting your order right the 1st time?!

I have been buying from a local bike shop here in Carrollton, GA

front pads ~$25.00, air valve for right fork -$18.50, caps for forks-$8.50/each, circlips ~$3.50 each, o-rings~$3.50each

Been getting good service from BikeBandit.com. Parts-n-More.com doesn't answer emails so far but there are a few folks around here that have had good experiences with them.

I'm a releative Nebie to XJ's, but I've purchased some OEM parts such as a petcock, and carb parts/gaskets from: http://www.worldofcycles.com/fiche_select.asp

The parts take about a week to get, but for OEM Yamaha they've had the best price up to this point.

I've bought alot from PowerSportsPro and gotten good service and fast shipping. Sometimes you can find a free shipping coupon.

With some parts, I've found them alot cheaper with some Ebay dealers.

Zanottimotor.com is the cheapest I have found so far.

I'm new to XJ, I purchased several items from Old Bike Barn and yesterday I found this site, www.z1enterprises.com.

Only if I had known about this one earlier, I could have saved $$$. Oh well, I'm learning the hard way.

As for tires, I brought a pair from www.motorcycletire.com. Please don't tell me there's even a cheaper place to get tires.

You can try TAS motorsports. (Just google their name.) It's personalized service. Email them, tell them what you want, and they'll respond with the options available to them. They seemed pretty good, as far as service and price.

I priced out sprockets and chain at my local yamastealer, and they did it for about 1/4 the price. Mind you, they couldn't get the o-ring chain, so I went for the economy chain.

    this is kind of strange
    i live 20 miles from worldofcycles.com and 30 miles from Zanottimotor.com
    never bought anything from either
after gas and tax i just order OEM stuff from www.ysppart.com in Seattle, WA
worldofcycles and zanottimotor both have very nice brick and mortar places
and good reputations here locally, so thanks for supporting our local shops

I certainly hope they're totally stocked. I just ordered a bunch of plastic covers and chrome that is discontinued. Also the speedometer assembly. This stuff is unavailable anywhere else I have looked, so we'll see!

I'll second that. Emailed them looking for pricing on an item, got no reply. Sent them another letting them know that I was going elsewhere because of their apparent lack of interest, and within hours I got a reply back trying to blame ME for their email not showing up.

...and don't get me started on OldBikeBarn.

Dang. Too good to be true. Their schematics/availability aren't up to date.

    ________________________________________________

    Mr. Piersol,

Unfortunately the majority of the parts you ordered are no longer available.

    All I can get is:

    92990-05200-00 2 washers at 1.68 ea

    95024-08045-00 bolt at 1.32

    99245-0080-00 emblem at 3.33

If you would like to still order these parts let me know, our minimum on shipping is 11.25,

which with the little cost of the parts it may be less expensive for you to purchase them from your local dealer.

have bought about 90% of my brand new parts from BikeBandit.com, i suppose i have gotten the rest of my new and used parts off of Ebay.
I have never had any real trouble with parts on Ebay, i just make sure to read the auction very closely to make sure i dont miss anything. Bikebandit.com has been very good, i do think their shipping could be a little faster but all in all they've been good to me.
I guess i did buy a couple things from oldbikebarn.com and i was very pleased with them.

I've ordered tires from Chaparral Motorsports (http://www.chaparral-racing.com), brake pads and carb parts from PartsNMore, chain and sprockets from BikeBandit, petcock parts from Sirius Consolidated (http://siriusconinc.com/default.asp), and riding gear from NewEnough and Brockton Cycle.

No complaints about any of these vendors, except for one master link from BikeBandit which took several weeks to receive.

Chaparral has free shipping on orders over $100, and Sirius and PartsNMore both had very reasonable shipping charges.

I tried ordering some stuff from MAW, but their "web site" drove me insane, and then their shipping charges were ridiculous.

I've also used RiderParts.com to find used parts (clutch lever perch, complete engine). You can post a request and subscribing salvage yards will reply to you with prices and availability.

I typically use the parts schematics on http://www.motogrid.com to research OEM parts. They discount Yamaha prices 15-25% I think, but shipping charges usually make stuff cost about the same as my local dealer. On more pricey items, though, they could probably save you some money.

    Wow,

    Thanks for all the replies.

Fate or coinicedence, a magazine from JC Whitney showed up at my mother-in-laws, shortly after I created this post.

    http://www.jcwhitney.com

NOTE: When I browsed their site, the price was higher than what was in the magazine. So request a copy of it.

I bought a 'Carburator Synchronizer' that has 4 gauges for $51.99, I think their internet price was $79.00 or something.
Bought a compression tester kit from them for 29.99

I can't remember, but I think buying $75.00 or more and you'll get free shipping.

They should pay me for advertising, lol.

You could have just gone down to a place that sells aquarium supplies and bought-out their entire supply of the clear vinyl hose other people desperately needed to keep their expensive little tropical fish alive and fabricated your own Rube Goldberg Style Carb Synchronizer for way under 20-bucks.

So what that a whole school of exotic, delightful, tropical, Neon Tetras has to be starved for life-giving oxygenated sea water, in a Fish Tank, that won't be filtered-out until the aquarium supply shop can order some more clear vinyl hose to restock their recently rapidly dwindling supply.

    Too bad.
You got there with the cash; first, baby!
And, you got a XJ to get tuned up.

    Say, "Goodnight; Gracie!"
