Hi guys, I'm doing a cafe racer mod to an XJ 750 D together with my son in Centurion, South Africa. It appears that it had Fuel injection that was junked for some Keihin's but we've managed to get the original Hitachi 32's from a bike wreckers yard locally.....one interesting issue we found with the Hitachi TID 14-14 CDI box was the inputs and outputs are reversed from the digrams posted on the minimum wiring posts.....anyway we opened the box (as is possible with seventies electronics)and found the output transistors and follwed the path to the edge connectors and sorted the pinouts....the original wiring harness confirmed it....so I'll be interested to assist any problems with that specific unit. Will post some pics of the progress

    Welcome to the site !!
I bet you also have the "high output" Police alternator - look for a finned cover. This was a Japanese home market bike.

    Hideous rims ! 8O Quick - get the bead blaster ! :p

Welcome, I second the bead blaster motion!

How old are the date codes on your tyres and brake lines? Especially with the added UV levels in your sunny climate the brake hoses & other rubber components degrade with age, I guess from the look of the bike you'll be going right through it anyway but just thought it was worth mentioning.

Looks like you're in for some fun, hope to see progress soon :)

EDIT-: just realised TIMEtoRIDE has a link to how to check your rubber date codes etc in his sig line too

Hi some news on the XJ café we built in South Africa...I recently rode the XJ at the Day of Champions meet at Zwartkops Race way In Pretoria, South Africa. I rode it in the "ton up" class for Café racers which was a demonstration ride and not a race....I wanted to share the ride with my son but my RZ350 chomped its CDI the eve of the event so I used his XJ......had an absolute blast with the bike....the original gas assisted rear shocks started to leak so I substituted them with the Seca coil over jobs...the front still has the anti-dive operational but pumped the forks to 1bar....still has the original foot peg position which allowed enough ground clearance....got an ancient Michelin Anakee tyre on the front but with the African sun the traction was good...also the track was well rubbered in from the previous days car event.

It's been two years. Any updates/new pics of the bike?

Nice work, VanderGraaf... Like the paint scheme alot! What kind of rear shocks are those? Looks like pretty trick stuff with the offset reservoir! You should get a thread going that features your bike!

Umm. Language barrier? "I do my own mods... wheels from an '86 FJ600..." and then I'm lost. Any one speak or read Italian? Whats a forcellone, who's Marving Scario? Inquiring minds want to know! That is a good looking bike!

I think Carbohydrates and Electrolytes are the trickiest parts of these bikes.
