What side covers will fit a 81 xj550 maxim that cover most of the triangle?
I tried the xj650 ones, but if i remember correctly, one side stuck out too much.

Want to look for existing options first before building my own. Or if you fabricated your own, do you have pics?

    Thanks,
    Gabor

Thanks, but not looking to buy an original xj550 piece. Looking for something that is bigger and covers more of the battery/airfilter side

    Know what I mean?

    Hi FU,

Here a pic of 650 covers. Still too much space top and bottom. Any other alternatives?

I was gonna say, you might have to custom fabricate something, and that 650 panel looks like a great starting point if you're up for it. Will the seat fill in any of that gap?

What's your plan for cup holders? Don't think diamond plate is gonna hold it!

    Lol.
Only used the diamond plate as template to get the shape for the seat pan. It is now fiber glass. Have another thread running on here that shows it.

unfortunately, the seat is not going to fill in any of the gaps, not going back to stock. Still undecided whether to do fiber glass add on or completely from scratch. Was hoping there was a Plug and play solution, hence my thread :)

No, there's not any direct swap.

Open frame :):) Since that's not what you actually asked, I don't see why you couldn't fiberglass your own if you don't have a good solution.

    Is that a CB750 tank?

It may sound stupid, but I would mock something up in card stock or with cardboard. Just break out the Elmers and start cutting and pasting until you get something halfway pretty. That way you'll know roughly what it will look like and have a mock up of it to lay your fiberglass/bondo on when you start actually making a piece if you're not going to modify the 650 panel. I know how much of an ordeal fiberglass can be, and it'd suck to get something together only to decide it doesn't look right.

yes sir. that is what i am going to do :)
i will most likely get a thin aluminum sheet that i can bend into place and put fiber glass on top. once dried, i can easily take it off. this would also give me a smooth surface and i have less sanding afterwards.
