First off, hello! New to the forum and motorcycle world.
So, just bought myself a '83 xj650 maxim off of craigslist. From what I know, the bike sat all winter, but it started up and seemed to run fine when I got there. The owner recommended throwing a new battery in it, that was about it. After I got the bike home, it sat for a couple days (bad weather) and wouldn't start after that. I bought a new battery, replaced that, still no luck. I ran all over town looking for fuses, happened to find one (of three) at a bike shop in town. As of now, it's still not starting - No turn over, no clicking, no sound, nothing. Any advice?

    - Thanks in advance!

The main fuse is most likely loose, or blown (20 amp). If you have the original fusebox with the glass-tube fuses, might as well plan on replacing it, it's way past its "expired date". We have replacement modern style blade-type fuseboxes for your bike that will solve that issue once and forver.

I can take a picture of it if need be, but I didn't see any fuse or any forks to place the 20 amp fuse on the bike. Would it be possible for it to run like that?
It has 3 10 amp slots (all have fuses, only one is new)

Sorry if it's a bit large, but as you can see, there's no forks/wires in the main spot.

Is it just me or does the wire on that inline fuse look burned? Looks like someone changed the main fuse to an inline blade already

Because someone removed them and hooked up that yellow fuse to them (in a very hackish way). Check that ATC fuse, and plan on getting a proper fusebox. I'd want to check what is under that black tape as well.

It looks like residue from the adhesive on the factory wiring loom tape, but it should be checked as well.

So, I should try replacing the yellow fuse and see if that helps?
Essentially that one is what's now running as my main fuse?

I would check the fuse to see if it is blown then check the wire to see if it is burned, and yes that is what appears to be your main fuse.

That'd be great if it was just a bad fuse, would save me a big headache.
If I notice the wire is burned, should I just be able to find a replacement?

I would say if the wire is burned you need to replace the burned section. I would take the tape off the wire and inspect it. You most likely need to replace your fusebox as well, chacal at xj4ever sells everything you will need. If you need to replace some wire it is not very hard, I remember a tutorial on it somewhere on here I will try to find it.
